The curriculum is a tool used to achieve educational goals and also as a guide in the learning process. There are many approaches in curriculum development, but so far in the development of Islamic religious education, more have used academic and humanistic subject approaches. This study aims to examine how the approach of academic and humanistic subjects in the development of Islamic religious education curriculum. This research is based on a literature study with data from library sources, both research journals, books and other documents relevant to the research focus. The results of this study reveal that the development of Islamic religious education curriculum uses an academic subject approach in accordance with the substance of Islamic religious education itself which contains religious teachings that are systematically arranged to be passed on to students. The humanistic approach is an approach that is based on the idea of humanizing humans in accordance with the potentials that God has given to every human being, so that students are able to develop the potential that exists in themselves and develop according to their nature and become servants of God who are faithful and pious.
