Abstract

Anxiety and difficulties in learning foreign languages, including Arabic, are common experiences for everyone, including students. Students from non-madrasah backgrounds, who have no prior experience with Arabic, tend to face higher levels of anxiety and learning difficulties. This study aims to explore the levels of anxiety and learning difficulties, as well as their relationship, in learning Arabic among students from non-madrasah backgrounds in the Arabic Language Education program at IAIN Palangka Raya. The research employs a descriptive quantitative approach with simple linear regression method, categorized as an ex post facto study where the independent variables have occurred previously. The results indicate that the average level of anxiety in learning Arabic among students from non-madrasah backgrounds is 1.01, which falls into the category of severe anxiety. The average level of difficulty in learning Arabic among these students is 2.82, categorized as high difficulty. There is a significant relationship between anxiety and learning difficulties in Arabic, with a significance level of 0.023, less than 0.05, and a t-value of 2.651 greater than the t-table value of 2.200, indicating a significant relationship between the level of anxiety and difficulties.
