Author Guidelines
Details and Guidelines to Keep in Mind for Your Manuscript Submission
Please carefully follow the guidelines below as you write. Any manuscripts not meeting these guidelines will be returned to the author(s) for correction, which can cause significant delays in the publication of your work.
Required Word Counts
Please ensure that your manuscript follows the word count requirements:
- 3,000–5,000 words (Journal Article)
All manuscripts must:
- be submitted in Microsoft® Word.
- be typewritten in English or Indonesian.
- have the references formatted using the Mendeley application or Zotero, and cite at least 30 articles from high-indexed journals (Scopus, Clarivate Analytics Web of Science) and at least 20 articles from nationally accredited journals or indexed by Sinta 2 (Indonesia Science and Technology Index).
- be written in objective third-person point of view throughout (Use “the authors” or “the researchers” NOT “I” or “we”).
- Originality of manuscripts. Only ORIGINAL submissions will be accepted for publication. Manuscripts may not have been previously published or be submitted for publication elsewhere.
- Revised manuscripts. Lingua: Jurnal Keilmuan dan Kependidikan Bahasa Arab will not publish a manuscript that is a “revised” version of a manuscript published elsewhere. In order to be considered original, a manuscript must contain at least 80% new material, with no more than 200 consecutive words (properly cited) repeated verbatim from any previously published work.
- Teaching notes. If you are writing a case study, please provide supplemental teaching notes as a separate document from your manuscript. These notes will be provided to readers interested in adopting your work as course material.
- Copyright. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). This license allows others to share the work with acknowledgment of the work's authorship and its initial publication in this journal, provided that the work is not used for commercial purposes. Authors may enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal’s published version of the work (e.g., posting it to an institutional repository or publishing it in a book), with acknowledgment of its initial publication in this journal. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as this can lead to productive exchanges as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.
- Plagiarism. Lingua: Jurnal Keilmuan dan Kependidikan Bahasa Arab takes plagiarism concerns very seriously. The editor double-checks each article before publication. The first step is to check plagiarism against the offline database developed by Golden Age and, secondly, against as many online databases as possible. A maximum similarity index of 15% is allowed for submitted papers. If more than 15% similarity is found, the article will be returned to the author for correction and re-submission.
- Titles. Titles may be no longer than 100 characters. Subtitles, if included, may be no longer than 50 characters.
- All titles must be entered in title case. To put a title in title case, the first letter of each word should be capitalized unless the word is a preposition (e.g., “over,” “with,” “between”), conjunction (e.g., “and,” “but”), or article (“a,” “an,” “the”). The first word of the title or subtitle is always capitalized, even if it is an article, preposition, or conjunction.
- Titles may not be written in all capital letters (e.g., “CHAPTER TITLE” is incorrect; “Chapter Title” is correct).
- Headings. Please format all headings as in the manuscript formatting template provided. Heading names within the body of your text may be adapted to suit the content of the work. Note that headings and subheadings should NOT be numbered (e.g., 1. Introduction, 2. Background, etc.).
- Images. A manuscript may include no more than 20 figures. Any figures or tables that do not meet these minimum specifications will be returned to the author(s) for correction. All figures must be submitted as separate files in .tif format. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain permission to use any image currently under copyright by a third party. Please see the image guide for more information.
- American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style Citations. Please ensure that all information in your manuscript that is taken from another source is substantiated with an in-text reference citation. A minimum of 20 sources is required for each submission. Please also note that your references must follow American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style. (The publisher will return your submission for correction if your references are not properly formatted.) For more information and examples on APA 7th Edition citations, please see the Lingua
- Self-citation. Researchers may need to cite their own previously published works to communicate an idea effectively in their present manuscript. While Lingua: Jurnal Keilmuan dan Kependidikan Bahasa Arab encourages the use of self-citations in these cases, self-cited works must not account for more than 50% of the total references in the manuscript.
- LaTex. LaTeX files are NOT accepted because they are not compatible with Lingua: Jurnal Keilmuan dan Kependidikan Bahasa Arab’s typesetting program. As an alternative, we require that you use MathType (see “Equations” below).
- Equations. If a symbol or equation can be typed directly into Microsoft Word, please do so. Otherwise, use MathType to format all equations. Authors can download a free trial version of MathType here: http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype/.
- Copy editing and proofreading. Complete copy editing and proofreading of your manuscript must be conducted before submission to ensure proper use of English, correct grammar, and correct spelling and punctuation. Manuscripts submitted to the publisher are considered to be in their final form and ready for publication as is.
- Regardless of how a manuscript is translated, content submitted to Lingua: Jurnal Keilmuan dan Kependidikan Bahasa Arab must be written in clear English with correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Note: The Manuscript Organization and Formatting Template is intended to standardize manuscript submissions and does not reflect how your work will appear in print. The format and design of the final publication are at the sole discretion of the publisher.
**Please note that all manuscripts MUST be submitted through the online submission manager. Manuscripts submitted outside of the system will not be considered for publication.**
