Abstract

Abad modern ini menuntut kemampuan membaca dan menulis yang memadai, sehingga bahasa indonesia dituntut untuk memosisikan dirinya sebagai bangsa yang berbudaya baca tulis. Untuk itu diperlukan upaya pengembangan baik melalui jalur pendidikan formal maupun non formal. Kita harus menyadari benar bahwa membaca mempunyai peranan sosial yang amat penting dalam kehidupan manusia sepanjang masa, seperti halnya membaca itu merupakan suatu alat komunikasi yang sangat diperlukan dalam suatu masyarakat yang berbudaya. Tujuan utama dalam membaca adalah untuk mencari serta memperoleh
informasi, mencakup isi, memahami makna bacaan. Haruslah disadari benar bahwa orang yang tidak ingin maju yang tidak menyediakan waktu untu membaca dalam hidupnya. Usaha yang paling efesien untuk mengetahui segala kejadian penting di dunia modern sekarang ini adalah dengan membaca.
