Pemikiran Marx tentang Determinisme Ekonomi yang menganggap bahwa ekonomi adalah sistem yang paling penting dalam menentukan semua sektor masyarakat (seperti politik, agama, budaya, ide dan sistem lainnya). Pemikiran Marx sebagai determinis ekonomi ditafsirkan dan dikolaborasikan dengan pemikiran Enggels dan Kautsky seperti tentang kemunduran kapitalisme sebagai sesuatu yang tidak terelakkan. Tafsiran dari teori Marx tersebut memicu reaksi dari Lukacs dan Gramsci serta Mazhab Franfrut. Sejak saat itulah bermunculan pemikiran kritis terhadap gagasan-gagasan Karl Marx. Mereka semua mencoba mengembalikan pemikiran-pemikaran Marx yang sebenarnya. Oleh karena itu mereka berkonstribusi besar dalam membangun gagasan-gagasan Marx berdasarkan pemikaran Marx sendiri
